The IPCC has opened registration for experts to review the First Order Draft (FOD) of the Working Group I (WGI) contribution to the Seventh Assessment Report (AR7). The WGI contribution assesses the latest physical science basis of climate change, including observed and projected large-scale climate changes, climate processes and feedback, and regional climate information.

The expert review, the first of multiple review stages, is a core element of the IPCC assessment process, ensuring that the report provides a balanced, comprehensive, and policy-relevant assessment of the latest scientific understanding.

To facilitate participation and clarify all aspects of the expert review process, the IPCC Focal Point for Italy will host an online Open Hour webinar.

The session will provide an overview of the structure and scope of the WGI contribution to AR7, practical guidance on how to submit review comments, and clarifications on the role and expectations of Expert Reviewers.

Moderator:
Anna Pirani – CMCC and IPCC Focal Point Alternate

Speakers:

  • Yona Silvi – WGI TSU Science Coordinator
  • Davide Faranda – LA Chapter 3: Changes in regional climate and extremes, and their causes

Expert Review period: 10 August – 2 October 2026

Registration deadline: 23:59 CEST on 25 September 2026

Additional guidance for expert reviewers is available here (in English)
