The IPCC Secretariat has opened the expert review of the First Order Draft (FOD) of the 2027 IPCC Methodology Report on Inventories for Short-lived Climate Forcers (SLCF). The review phase represents a core element of the IPCC assessment process, ensuring that the report provides a balanced, comprehensive, and policy-relevant assessment of the latest scientific and technical knowledge.

The Methodology Report is being prepared under the IPCC Task Force on National Greenhouse Gas Inventories (TFI), following the Principles Governing IPCC Work. The report outline was agreed by the Panel at its Sixty-first Session (Sofia, Bulgaria, July–August 2024).

Review period: 5 January 2026 – 27 February 2026 (midnight, GMT+1)

Open Hour webinar

To facilitate participation and clarify all aspects of the expert review process, the IPCC Focal Point for Italy will host an online Open Hour webinar.

The webinar will be moderated by Anna Pirani, CMCC and Focal Point alternate for Italy, who was recently nominated Lead Author for Chapter 1 of the Working Group (WG) on Impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability of the IPCC Seventh Assessment Report. Dr. Pirani also served as executive editor of the IPCC Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C and the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) in Working Group I, and was an author of the IPCC AR6 Synthesis Report.

The webinar includes the participation of author of the Methodology Report on SLCF:
Maria Jose Sanz Sanchez, Director of the Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), IPCC TFI Bureau member;

The session will provide an overview of the structure and scope of the SLCF Methodology Report, practical guidance on how to submit review comments, and clarifications on the role and expectations of Expert Reviewers.
