As part of the ACCREU research project, ACCREU—together with sister projects CROSSEU and SPARCCLE—will launch a joint webinar series with the first event, “Reflections on the cost and effectiveness of climate change adaptation”. This session offers an interdisciplinary perspective on the links between climate risk, socioeconomic inequality, and adaptation strategies in Europe.

The webinar will highlight new insights from SPARCCLE on assessing climate risk through probabilistic hazard emulators, socioeconomic projections, and sector-specific adaptation pathways, as well as global evidence from CROSSEU showing how extreme climate events exacerbate income inequality. ACCREU will present new European and global estimates of climate-related economic costs and the cost-effectiveness of adaptation, derived from advanced sectoral and integrated assessment models. Together, these contributions provide an up-to-date understanding of how climate extremes, vulnerability, and adaptation interact, offering essential foundations for designing resilient and inclusive climate policies across Europe.
