This international webinar will explore the role of trade unions in shaping climate transitions and securing workers’ interests in a context of accelerating decarbonisation, growing climate impacts and increasing political and economic uncertainty.

Bringing together trade union representatives from Canada, Scotland and Spain, the webinar will compare experiences of union engagement with climate policies and just transition initiatives across different national contexts. The discussion will examine lessons learned from past efforts, strategies for organising and mobilisation, and priorities for strengthening the role of trade unions as strategic actors in increasingly contested climate transitions.

The webinar is co-hosted by the AdJUST project (Advancing the understanding of challenges, policy options and measures to achieve a JUST EU energy transition), coordinated by the CMCC Foundation under Horizon Europe. The event builds on research and activities developed within the AdJUST project and the CRIMT Partnership on Experimentation for Better Work, including the Workers as Climate Actors research team.

The discussion will be moderated by Gregor Murray (CRIMT, Université de Montréal), with introductory remarks by Ben Crawford (London School of Economics and Political Science) and closing remarks by John Peters (CRIMT, Memorial University).

AdJUST is a Horizon Europe project coordinated by the CMCC Foundation and carried out by a transdisciplinary European consortium consisting of 9 EU partners, 2 UK associated partners and other 11 EU associated partners. The objectives of AdJUST are to achieve a step change in societal understanding of the distributive repercussions of the transition to climate neutrality, and to identify effective and actively-supported policy interventions to accompany climate action so that no-one is left behind.
