Michele Giurato has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics obtained at the University Bicocca (Milan, Italy), and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Meteorology obtained at the University of Trento (Tn, Italy) and Innsbruck (IBK, Austria). His master thesis, in collaboration with the company ‘METEO OPERATIONS ITALIA SRL’, is about the improvement of short-term forecasts of convective phenomena based on the model WRF with data assimilation.

Before joining CMCC, he worked as an intern in the same company for 6 months, studying the WRF model and the 3D-Var and 4D-Var assimilation techniques implemented within it.

His present activity at CMCC in the Ocean Modeling and Data Assimilation division concerns quality assessment of the oceanographic model forecast for the Mediterranean Sea,  achieved by performing statistical validation using available observations and analyses.
