James Chaneil

Chaneil James, MSc, is a program manager (data science) at the Euro-Mediterranean Centre on Climate Change (CMCC), supporting the Integration of the planetary biogeochemical and industrial carbon cycle (ICC) program through coordination of initiatives and strategic use of environmental data to advance climate resilience and sustainability. She previously worked as a Senior Data Analyst at the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), analyzing global climate, water, and forest datasets to help governments, investors, and institutions assess environmental risk and sustainability performance.

Holding a BSc in Earth Sciences from University College London and an MSc in Astrophysics, Particle Physics, and Cosmology from the Universitat de Barcelona, Chaneil is also the founder of AstroNoir Ltd., a platform connecting policymakers, researchers, and civil society to make Earth and space science accessible and actionable for the African diaspora and the Global South. Her work spans science communication, education, and policy engagement, including an internship at CERN, volunteering at Amnesty International, writing for Physics World magazine, coordinating communities at the Frontier Development Lab (Europe and USA), and serving as a Subject Matter Expert for NASA SpaceApps and an independent expert at multiple United Nations agencies. She champions inclusive participation in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics), particularly empowering underrepresented peoples.
