Before joining the CMCC, Merve was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Climate Policy department of the DIW Berlin (German Institute of Economic Research Berlin), where she investigated socio-economic implications of climate policy such as the decarbonisation of the building sector and public acceptance of tax-and-transfer schemes as well as drivers of household emissions. She holds a PhD in economics from Deakin University (Australia), where has also taught courses on Competition and Industry, Economic Principles and Energy, and Environment and Sustainability. She was awarded an Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy based on her teaching practices. Her PhD thesis uses administrative as well as survey data and explores the costs of natural disasters on households and governments. Merve holds a MA in Economics from Bogazici University (Turkey), a MSc in Finance from Grenoble Ecole de Management (France) and a BSc in Mathematics from Bogazici University (Turkey). She has also industry experience in project finance in Turkey, and policy research at the OECD.
