Dr. Robert J. Zomer is a senior landscape ecologist with over three decades of global experience in research and program development related to climate change, agroforestry, biodiversity conservation, and environmental modeling. His work has focused on mountain ecosystems and sustainable landscapes, integrating advanced spatial analysis, remote sensing, and participatory approaches to inform natural resource management and policy across a range of scales.
He has held senior roles with international research institutions including the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD), the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), and the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF). He was a Visiting Professor/Research Felllow at the Center Mountain Futures, Kunming Institute of Botany, for more than a decade and most recently a Presidential Fellow at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Dr. Zomer has worked extensively across Asia, Africa, and Latin America, contributing to global assessments and a broad body of peer-reviewed research on agroforestry,climate mitigation, environmental stratification, and land use dynamics. He holds a Ph.D. in Landscape and Systems Ecology from the University of California, Davis.
