EDITO-Model Lab, Underlying models for the European DIgital Twin Ocean – EDITO-Model Lab
EDITO-Model Lab will prepare the next generation of ocean models, complementary to Copernicus Marine Service to be integrated into the EU public infrastructure of the European Digital Twin Ocean that will ensure access to required input and validation data (from EMODnet, EuroGOOS, ECMWF, Copernicus Services and Sentinels satellite observations) and to high performance and distributed computing facilities (from EuroHPC for High Performance Computing and other cloud computing resources) and that will be consolidated under developments of Destination Earth (DestinE).

RITE and CMCC will develop the Energy demand digital and social trends.

The EDITS (Energy Demand changes Induced by Technological and Social innovations) project is operated by RITE as a commissioned project of METI, with the aim of conducting a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of CO2 emission reductions and changes in energy demand brought about by technological innovation.
EESC – Study on The cost of climate change on households and families in the EU
CMCC has been awarded the service contract “Study on The cost of climate change on households and families in the EU”, funded by the European Commission. The aim of this study is to document the costs of climate changes (impacts, mitigation policies and adaptation measures) for the households in the European Union and their implications on income distribution and poverty indices.
EFFICIENT BUILDINGS
The EFFICIENT BUILDINGS project, as its predecessor MEDNICE, supports the Efficient Buildings Community established within the Interreg Mediterranean programme framework. The community brings together local and national public authorities, energy agencies, enterprises and research organizations to exchanges methodologies, experiences and tools on energy efficiency in the public buildings of the Mediterranean region.
EFLIP – Economic impacts of flood risk in Lombardy and innovative risk mitigation policy
Lombardy, Italy’s economic engine, is particularly vulnerable to flood hazard risk, the consequences of which are likely to affect the national growth and stability. EFLIP will contribute to a better appreciation of indirect and induced effects of flood risk on economic growth and social cohesion by analyzing micro- and macro-economic consequences of flood risk in Lombardy.
eFlows4HPC – Enabling dynamic and Intelligent workflows in the future EuroHPCecosystem
Nowadays, developers lack tools that enable the development of complex workflows involving HPC simulations and modelling with data analytics and machine learning. eFlows4HPC aims to deliver a workflow software stack and an additional set of services to enable the integration of HPC simulations and modelling with big data analytics and machine learning in scientific and industrial applications. The software stack will allow creating innovative adaptive workflows that efficiently use the computing resources considering novel storage solutions.
EGI-ACE – EGI Advanced Computing for EOSC
EGI-ACE is a 30-month project coordinated by the EGI Foundation with a mission to empower researchers from all disciplines to collaborate across national borders in data- and compute-intensive research through free-at-point-of-use services. EGI-ACE is a large-scale, multi-organisation distributed facility that contributes to the vision of “strengthening Europe’s capabilities and infrastructures for hosting, processing and using data and interoperability” (European Strategy for Data, COM (2020) 66 final, 19-02-2020, Pillar B).

ELEVATE – Enabling and Leveraging Climate Action Towards Netzero Emissions
ELEVATE is a project funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme and the consortium consists of 20 partners, and brings together leading research groups to support climate policymaking within and outside the EU. These research groups are involved in modelling international climate policy, national policies, social science, policy analysis, environmental assessment, and stakeholder engagement. World-leading institutions in global integrated assessment modelling are a central part of the ELEVATE consortium (IIASA, PBL, PIK, CMCC, E3M, NIES, KU, UFRJ/COPPETEC, and UMD). This means that the consortium involves all teams that have played a leading role in the coordination and development of the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways, which serve to integrate the assessment of mitigation, adaptation and impacts research across the climate change science community.

ENGAGE – Exploring National and Global Actions to reduce Greenhouse gas Emissions
ENGAGE is a project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme and carried out by a consortium of 25 European and International organizations. As the world faces the risks of dangerous climate change, policy-makers, industry and civil society leaders are counting on Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs) to inform and guide strategies to deliver on the objectives of the Paris Agreement (PA). ENGAGE rises to this challenge by engaging these stakeholders in co-producing a new generation of global and national decarbonisation pathways. These new pathways will supplement natural science, engineering and economics, traditionally represented in IAMs, with cutting-edge insights from social science in order to reflect multidimensional feasibility of decarbonisation and identify opportunities to strengthen climate policies. The pathways will be designed to minimise overshoot of the temperature target and analyse the timing of net-zero emissions to meet the Paris temperature target and reduce the reliance on controversial negative emissions technologies. In addition, they will link national mitigation strategies of major emitters with the PA’s objectives, integrate potential game-changing innovations, and advance conceptually novel approaches to architectures of international climate agreements. ENGAGE will also quantify avoided impacts of climate change, co-benefits and trade-offs of climate policy, and identify the biggest sectoral opportunities for climate change mitigation. In ENGAGE, we will set new standards of transparency for global and national IAMs. The new pathways will be developed in an iterative global and national stakeholder process and a consortium of leading global and national IAMs and social scientists. The Enhancing NEMO for Marine Applications and Services (ENMASSE) project represents a pivotal initiative aimed at advancing the capabilities of the NEMO (Nucleus for European Modelling of the Ocean) modelling platform. This enhancement is designed to address specific scientific and operational requirements set by the Copernicus Marine Service (CMS) program for the development and delivery of more precise and sophisticated ocean modelling products. These products are intended to support a wide range of applications, including marine safety, climate prediction, and ecosystem monitoring, ultimately contributing to informed decision-making and sustainable ocean management.

Despite the wide recognition of the complex interactions between trade (policy) and climate (policy), the state-of-the-art capabilities in macroeconomic models face substantial limitations, such as lack of granular data, dependence on conventional trade theories, limited empirical evidence on trade-climate interactions, limited representation of the value and material chain in key (existing and emerging) sectors, heavy reliance on frameworks not accounting for endogenous technical change, limited understanding of the role of developing countries in trade, etc.

EO4EU – AI-augmented ecosystem for Earth Observation data accessibility with Extended reality User Interfaces for Service and data exploitation
A vast amount of Earth Observation data is produced daily and made available through online services and repositories. Contemporary and historical data can be retrieved and used to power existing applications, to foster innovation and finally improve the EU citizens’ lives. However, an undersized audience follows this activity, leaving huge volumes of valuable information unexploited. EO4EU aims to provide innovative tools, methodologies and approaches that would assist a wide spectrum of users, from domain experts and professionals to simple citizens to benefit from EO data. EO4EU strives to deliver dynamic data mapping and labelling based on AI adding FAIRness to the system and data. EO4EU introduces an ecosystem for holistic management of EO data, bridging the gap among domain experts and end users, bringing in the foreground technological advances to address the market straightness towards a wider usage of EO data. EO4EU envisages to boost the Earth Observation data market, providing a digestible data information modeling for a wide range of EO data, through dynamic data annotation and a state-of-the-art serverless processing by leveraging important European Cloud & HPC infrastructures.
EO4MULTIHA: High-Impact Multi-Hazards Science
The EO4MULTIHA project is a European Space Agency funded project aiming to explore the potential of Earth observation technology to advance the scientific understanding of high impact multi-hazard events. The project will focus on several compound and cascading hazards, in order to better identify, characterize and assess their associated risk, vulnerability and impacts on society and ecosystems.
