General aims
The project aims at contributing to the reduction of the vulnerability to multiple hazards of vulnerable population groups in Asuncion, Alto Paraguay and Presidente Hayes by strengthening national, sub-national institutions and communities’ preparedness capacities.
CMCC Role
The activities carried out by CMCC researchers focus on the (i) analysis of the future climate; (ii) hydrological risk analysis.
Expected results
- Climate risk analysis for the whole country;
- Flood hazard and vulnerability analysis at the country and Paraguay river basin level, with more detailed analysis conducted for the capital city of Asuncion, Upper Paraguay e Nanawa.
Activity
The work plan is structured in 3 tasks, and further subdivided in sub-tasks as specified below:
Task 1 Climate risk analysis:
- Acquisition of the climate simulation data;
- Validation of the climate simulation with respect to the baseline period;
- Analysis of climate anomalies.
Task 2 Flood hazard and risk analysis:
- Hazard assessment;
- Exposure assessment;
- Vulnerability assessment;
- Risk assessment.
Task 3 Support to the execution of the Project:
- Stakeholder meetings in order to introduce the aims and scope of the research activities;
- Coordination with local and national stakeholders in order to achieve their effective participation and involvement in the research activities;
