CMCC-FEEM Seminar “Sustainability Assessment and Monitoring: the ACLIMAS Project”

This research presents how to assess and monitor sustainability of the no-till agricultural practice under the impact of climate change.  The opportunity is given by the ACLIMAS project (EropeAid-SWIM), a demonstration project, which aims to disseminate the relevance of no-till agricultural practices to cope with impacts of climate change in six pilot areas (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon).  A sustainability analysis is designed to assess and monitor no-till, in order to enable and facilitate its adoption by farmers in arid areas.  After the establishment of a baseline by means of a characterization report, which includes the identification of the indicators to be monitored, data is collected and input in the freeware mDSS, which uses multi-criteria analysis to assess relative sustainability of different management practices, i.e. enables the comparison between till and no-till.
