Speaker: Andrea Storto, CMCC Bologna
A variational data assimilation component for the global ocean has been implemented in SINTEX-F, based on the CMCC global ocean 3DVAR analysis system. The data assimilation corrects temperature and salinity fields on a monthly basis by assimilating all quality checked in-situ profiles of temperature and salinity, sea-level anomalies from available altimetric missions and sea-surface temperature observations from infrared and microwave instruments.
We provide here preliminary results on the impact of the assimilation scheme and its implementation and tuning for the ORCA05 configuration of the JAMSTEC SINTEX-F2 AOGCM for the period 2006-onwards, along with plans for future experiments. Finally, first works on the calibration and exploitation of coarser resolution ensemble simulations to improve the representation of model errors are provided and discussed as preliminary step to allow flow-dependency in the variational scheme.
