Alvi Shahbaz

Shahbaz Alvi gained his early education from the city of Karachi, Pakistan where he was trained as a physicist. He then moved to Stockholm to do a Masters in Theoretical Physics from the University of Stockholm, Sweden. After finishing his masters, he spent a few years at the Habib University of Liberal Arts as researcher and lecturer in Physics and Mathematics. He moved to Italy to pursue a Ph.D. from University of Ferrara in Cosmology in which he worked as a part of the ESA’s cosmology mission Euclid. He finished in the year 2023 after successfully defending his thesis titled, “Constraining the dark components of the Universe through CMB and Large Scale Structure”.

After completing his Ph.D., Shahbaz joined the CMCC motivated by the threat of increase in extreme climate events and inspired by the efforts of the CMCC. He joined the ASC division as a researcher in machine learning for extreme climate events. His research involves exploring the application of Machine learning methods in predicting occurrence of extreme climate events.
