This Ph.D. Program was established in 2009 (XXIV cycle) in Lecce (Italy, University of Salento).
From the year 2011 (XXVII Cycle) the Ph.D. Course in Science of Climate Change joined the Ph.D. School in Ecology of the University of Salento.

The Ph.D. Program in “Ecology and Climate Change” includes the following research topics:
- Complex systems: model and experimental theories and applications
- Climate models and methodologies for the creation of scenarios on a regional scale
- Statistical climatology
- Organization, structure and operation of the ecosystems
- Conservation of goods, services and health of the coastal ecosystems
- Ecology of climate change
- Biology and ecology applied to the productive systems
- High performance computing and advanced management of data for climate and environmental applications
