Research Unit Leader
Description
This unit focuses on economic and wider social effects of extreme climate and meteorological events as well as policy instruments set to reduce societal vulnerability and increase resilience. The research subunit Impact assessment of extreme events, led by Lorenzo Carrera, analyses impacts of major disaster strikes in Europe and elsewhere, and develop models able to estimate future economic losses of natural hazards amplified by the human induced climate change. The subunit Performance assessment of disaster risk reduction strategies, led by Dr. Dionisio Perèz Blanco, analyses how economic, regulatory and other policy instruments reduce the risk and vulnerability and contribute to a better protection and prevention of disaster losses. An emphasis is placed on economic policy instruments boosting efficiency of resource use and risk sharing arrangements.
