More information

The CMCC Foundation will host an international workshop in Milan on 26–27 October 2026 to support the development of the Resilient Coastal Human Communities and Ecosystems Solution Blueprint, one of the eight Ocean Decade Solutions that will guide the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development through 2030 and beyond.
The workshop is part of a global process led by the Decade Collaborative Centre for Coastal Resilience (DCC-CR), which has been entrusted by the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO) with co-leading the development of the Blueprint. The initiative contributes to Ocean Decade Challenge 6: Increase community resilience to ocean hazards, bringing together scientific knowledge, policy priorities and practical approaches to strengthen the resilience of coastal communities and ecosystems worldwide.
The two-day workshop will bring together international scientists, policymakers, practitioners and other stakeholders to identify shared priorities and co-develop a roadmap for translating ocean science into actionable solutions for coastal resilience. It will build on a series of online preparatory sessions designed to introduce the Blueprint framework and engage experts from across the international Ocean Decade community.
CMCC representatives Nadia Pinardi, Giulia Galluccio and Giovanni Coppini will take part in the workshop, contributing to the discussions and the collaborative development of the Solution Blueprint.
The DCC-CR is leading this process in collaboration with a consortium of partners, including the CMCC Foundation, IEEE, Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, Deltares, CoastPredict, MEGA-DELTAS, SUPREME and SmartNet, with support from organisations across the UN Ocean Decade network.
Following the Milan workshop, the co-leads will prepare a first draft of the Solution Blueprint, which will be submitted to a broad community consultation before its presentation at the 2027 Ocean Decade Conference in Rio de Janeiro. The Blueprint will provide a shared framework for advancing science-based solutions that strengthen the resilience of coastal communities and ecosystems in the face of ocean-related hazards and environmental change.
