CMCC representatives will attend the One Ocean Science Congress (OOSC2025) and the 2025 UN Ocean Conference (UNOC2025), to be held in Nice from June 3 to 13, 2025. CMCC’s presence underscores its commitment to advancing marine science in the context of climate change, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable regions, particularly coastal areas.
From June 3 to 6, the One Ocean Science Congress–a UN Ocean Conference Special Event dedicated to Science–will provide Heads of State, Governments, and the broader society with comprehensive scientific insights on the Ocean’s health and future trajectory. Science-informed decisions should enable the conservation and sustainable use of the Ocean, optimize the solutions it offers, and safeguard the services and benefits it provides to humanity.
From June 9 to 13, the high-level 2025 United Nations Ocean Conference, co-hosted by France and Costa Rica, will focus on accelerating action for the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 14–to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development– through an ambitious Nice Ocean Action Plan centered on advancing multilateralism in ocean governance, supporting the development of a sustainable blue economy and strengthening the relationship between science and policy-making.

Oral presentation | OOSC2025
June 5, h. 14:00–14:10 CEST | Room 8
By supporting early warning systems, digital twins, and risk assessments and combining satellite, in situ, IoT, and citizen data with AI/ML, the Coast Predict initiative aims to advance coastal resilience through integrated observation systems, prediction capabilities, and cloud-based tools.
CMCC researchers Giovanni Coppini, Mairéad O’Donovan, and Paola Nassisi will join an expert panel alongside Nadia Pinardi and other experts to discuss actionable pathways for science-informed coastal adaptation.
Poster presentation | OOSC2025
June 3-5 | OOSC Poster Area, La Baleine – Palais des Expositions
A CMCC-led poster presentation will cover work on the Integration of observing systems and operational modelling toward seagrass Nature-Based Solutions developed in collaboration with other leading scientists.
CMCC researchers will also be present in the European Digital Ocean Pavilion – DECIDE area, participating in panel discussions, contributing to a hackathon workshop and showcasing multimedia materials. The pavilion, open from June 2 to 13, will display cutting-edge EU’s marine science research assets and tools.

June 13, h. 11:15-12:15 CEST | INSPIRE area
Advances in Coastal Monitoring
The panel will showcase innovative monitoring solutions tackling key coastal pressures, discussing how new technologies enhance effective coastal ecosystem management and restoration, and explore approaches for a more holistic understanding of coastal resilience
Hackathon | European Digital Ocean Pavilion
June 13, h. 15:00-15:45 CEST | INSPIRE area
EDITO-Model Lab’s Hackathon launch
CMCC plays a pivotal role in the development of next-generation ocean models for the European Digital Twin Ocean in the context of the EDITO-Model Lab project, optimizing hydrodynamic and wave simulations for high-performance computing and developing user-friendly tools
CMCC will also contribute to the European Digital Ocean Pavilion’s DECIDE area with multimedia materials, such as visualization tools, to offer EU decision-makers an immersive experience of state-of-the-art ocean monitoring and modeling science.
