The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) is part of the Copernicus Earth Observation programme and is implemented by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) on behalf of the European Commission.

In this context, the C3S Demo Case “Soil Erosion”, conducted by the Foundation CMCC, aims at providing information about current status and future variations in soil loss potential by rainfall erosion over Italy. The well-assessed Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), combining rainfall erosivity and soil susceptibility to erosion, will be adopted for this purpose while exploiting last generation datasets and tools available on the C3S Climate Data Store (CDS).

The expected product is a WebGIS Application allowing to access, visualize and analyze estimates about soil erosion hazard across Italy, under both current climate and ensemble of future scenarios.

On the occasion of World Soil Day 2019 (#WorldSoilDay) and its campaign “Stop soil erosion, Save our future”, the webinar will introduce both the framework of C3S and the soil erosion topic in the context of EU initiatives and policy directives, and it will outline the Demo Case objectives and preliminary design.

To facilitate tailoring the Application to the needs of end-users, views from them are crucial, thus the Q&A session will consist in crowdsourcing and polling in real-time some feedbacks from the attendants. Be ready with your smartphone in hand!
