The COVID crisis has led to a drop in electricity demand and generation. This study examines how the power system has responded in Italy, France, Spain, Germany and UK, both on the demand and supply sides. Preliminary results show that the COVID crisis has led to a sharp drop in electricity load, generation and CO2 emissions. The analysis of hourly data on electricity generation reveals that the ongoing shock on the demand side has influenced the relative use of renewables and fossil fuels technologies, further contributing to the reduction of emissions.
