Marcello Iotti is an atmospheric physicist with a Master’s degree in Physics of the Earth System from the University of Bologna (2019). During his thesis project, he worked on numerical modeling of the atmospheric boundary layer using the WRF model, focusing on urban parameterization schemes and their validation against observational data.
He obtained a PhD in Data Science and Computation from the University of Bologna in 2024, where he explored deep learning–based approaches for precipitation downscaling. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the CMCC Foundation, focusing on AI-based downscaling of climate model outputs and the development of deep learning emulators for physical parameterizations in climate models.
His research is centered on integrating atmospheric science with machine learning to improve downscaling approaches, enhance model physics, and advance the understanding of extreme events and their impacts.
