The Transnational Event of the ALIENA project, organized by CMCC, will be held in Lecce on 24 September 2025, to showcase the first results of the initiative tackling the issue of non-indigenous species. The event will bring together a diverse audience of researchers, environmental monitoring experts, public institutions, policy makers, and economic sector representatives, alongside citizens and enthusiasts interested in biodiversity and environmental protection.
The ALIENA project is dedicated to protecting biodiversity in the Adriatic Sea by developing a shared knowledge base and a collaborative monitoring system targeting non-indigenous species (NIS).
Through joint monitoring and advanced modeling, the project aims to deliver early warning solutions that are vital for effective marine ecosystem management, biodiversity conservation, and public health protection.
ALIENA also focuses on enhancing harmonized protocols for the detection, monitoring, and management of NIS while actively working to raise awareness among stakeholders about the ecological and socio-economic risks these species pose.
