Panos Athanasiadis, Ph.D. in Meteorology

Studied large-scale atmospheric dynamics linking to jet variability, the stormtracks and the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). Analyzed seasonal to decadal predictability in the midlatitudes, particularly regarding North Atlantic blocking and the NAO. More recently has developed an interest in extratropical ocean–atmosphere interactions in relation to the realism of climate models and predictability. Has participated with a leading role to a number of significant EU projects (PRIMAVERA, BLUE-ACTION, EUCP, ROADMAP, ASPECT) and worked on the development of climate services. Currently leads the CMCC group on decadal predictions and applications working towards the implementation of a seamless climate prediction system.
