Borgo Andrea

Andrea Borgo is an Environmental Engineer and Postdoctoral Researcher at the CMCC Foundation, specialized in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and the sustainable management of water resources. He holds a Master’s degree in Environmental and Land Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, with a specialization in Climate Change, and a PhD in Agrometeorology conducted jointly at the University of Sassari and the CMCC Foundation. His research has involved collaborations with international institutions including ZALF (Germany), CESBIO (France), and the University of Agriculture in Krakow (Poland).
During his PhD, he worked within ACQUAOUNT, a European project developing digital decision-support tools for freshwater resource management across four Mediterranean countries. There, he mainly contributed to the development of a digital platform that helps farmers, water managers, and policymakers improve water allocation, reduce waste, and plan management strategies across spatial and temporal scales, from field-level irrigation to basin-scale planning. His expertise is multidisciplinary, combining agrometeorology, hydrological modelling, remote sensing, and software development, grounded in IWRM and the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus, with a focus on optimizing water allocation and identifying trade-offs between competing sectors.
