Anna Chiara Goglio is an environmental physicist and modeller with experience in a range of different environmental sciences.
She undertook a Master’s Degree in Theoretical Physics at the University of Pisa.
Her thesis, in collaboration with the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology of Pisa, covered Computational Fluid Dynamics applied to pyroclastic flows. Before joining the CMCC in 2019, she worked at the Regional Center of Environmental Modeling of the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection of Friuli Venezia Giulia. During this experience, she worked on Meteorological Analysis and Air Quality Forecasts. Her main contributions were the improvements of operational workflows and post-processing modeling chains.
Her present activity at CMCC in the Institute for Earth System Predictions concerns the study of ocean circulation in the Mediterranean Sea. Currently, the focus of her research activity is on the upgrade of the near real time operational system of the Mediterranean Sea.
Moreover, since November 2022, she has joined the Future Earth, Climate Change and Societal Challenges PhD programme. The topic of her thesis is the analysis of the Mediterranean Sea circulation and tidal dynamics through numerical experiments with a focus on extreme sea level events.
She has also enriched her academic experience with a three-month research visit at Dalhousie University (Canada), where she strengthened her skills and expanded her international collaborations.
Her present activity at CMCC in the Ocean Modeling and Data Assimilation division concerns the study of ocean circulation in the Mediterranean Sea. Currently, the focus of her research activity is on the upgrade of the near real time operational system of the Mediterranean Sea.
