The Monitoring and Forecasting Centre for the global Ocean (GLO MFC), coordinated by Mercator Ocean International is part of the seven Monitoring and Forecasting Centres (MFCs), and generates model-based products, providing operational analysis and forecasts together with long-term physical and biogeochemical Reanalyses covering the satellite altimetry era. The Reanalysis component shall produce an ensemble of Reanalyses generated by state-of-the-art ocean modeling and data assimilation components, extensively validated, and disseminated at high temporal and spatial resolutions. These global ocean Reanalysis products will be compiled in order to quantify the state of the ocean and its uncertainty using an ensemble approach.
21 months from 01/07/2019 to 01/03/2021
Estimation of the time-evolving state of the ocean by combining heterogeneous observations with a general circulation ocean model for research-oriented applications.
Responsible for the activities in the lot 2. CMCC is responsible for the production of a physical dataset that is part of an ensemble of products from different institutions.
Production of a global ocean Reanalysis at eddy-permitting resolution covering the full satellite altimetry era from 1993-onwards.
Set up an operational system for biannual and monthly updates.
Validation and diagnostics.
Cross cutting activities: multi-year products, ocean state report (OSR), ocean monitoring indicators (OMI).
The CMCC ocean retrospective analysis (Reanalysis) will be part of the CMEMS multi-model ensemble product, used to quantify past and recent state of the ocean and its uncertainty.
