The following project aims to provide a service for acquiring and processing satellite data collected from tags placed on sea turtles in order to study their behaviour in relation to environmental variables and climate change.
5 months from 24/07/2023 to 30/11/2023
General aims
Tracking sea turtles and studying behaviour related to environmental variables and climate change.
CMCC role
Setting of satellite tags. Data transmission, acquisition, processing and reporting through the MySea portal for the duration of the tags.
Activities
– Positioning of no. 4 GPS/Argos satellite reference tags with temperature sensor;
– Positioning of no. 2 innovative CMCC experimental GPS/Iridium satellite tags, equipped with sensors for the study of turtle movement, physical and bio-optical variables;
– Satellite data transmission for no. 6 tags for the life of the tags;
– Acquisition and visualisation of the tracking data acquired through the MySea portal;
– Processing of data acquired from the tags;
– Reporting of activities and acquired data.
Expected results
Development and data acquisition by innovative tags for the study of turtles habitat, detailed study of marine turtles behaviour
