Andrea Castelletti is a full professor of Natural Resources Management and Environmental Systems Analysis at Politecnico di Milano. He received an MSc degree in Environmental Engineering and a PhD in Systems and Control Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 1999 and 2005. He was a visiting scholar at Princeton University, Cornell University, ETH Zurich, Lancaster University, and the University of Western Australia. From 2014 to 2022 he was a senior scientist at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, ETH Zurich, Switzerland. From 2007 to 2015, he was an Adjunct Professor at the Centre for Water Research of the University of Western Australia. He is the founder and head of the Environmental Intelligence Lab at Politecnico di Milano and Chair of the PhD Program in Science, Technology, and Policy for Sustainable Change. From 2024 is director of the division Technologies for Climate Transition at the Euro-Mediterranean Center for Climate Change (CMCC)

Dr. Castelletti’s research interests include water systems planning and management under uncertainty and risk, decision-making for complex hydro-environmental systems, and machine learning for hydroclimatic applications. He is involved in a number of national and international projects as coordinator or principal investigator, raising more than 4.5 M€ in the last five years.

Dr. Castelletti is co-author of 2 international books on integrated water resources management, more than 200 publications in international journals, book chapters and conference proceedings. In 2009 he was awarded a senior fellowship by the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science, in 2010 an Early Career Excellence Award by the International Environmental Modelling and Software Society, in 2013 the Italy-Canada Innovation prize, in 2016 the EFARRI award, in 2018 he was Biennial Medalist for the International Environmental Modelling and Software Society, in 2021 the Aspen Institute Award for US-Italy research, and 2023 the was nominated Italian National Champion for the Frontiers Sustainability prize.

Dr. Castelletti is an Editor of Water Resources Research and Environmental Research: Water, and an Associate Editor of Socio-Ecological Systems Modelling.
