Maicu Francesco

Francesco Maicu is a scientist at CMCC, where he works mainly in the development of a regional coupled ocean-atmosphere forecasting systems for the Southern European Seas. He is also specialized in hydrodynamic modeling, coastal and lagoon dynamics, and environmental forecasting. His work has focused on key Mediterranean systems including the Venice Lagoon, Po River Delta, and Nador Lagoon in Morocco.

Francesco is civil engineering from University of Parma and holds a PhD in “Future of the Earth, Climate Changes and Societal Challenges” from the University of Bologna. He has been visiting researcher at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR, USA) and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (USA). He has a background in both numerical modeling (using SHYFEM, NEMO, and WRF) and field work, participating in several oceanographic and environmental monitoring campaigns.

With over two decades of experience bridging applied science and decision support for coastal management, Francesco has contributed to peer-reviewed publications in oceanography, marine science, and climate adaptation.
