Cretì Sergio

Sergio Cretì is a Senior Research Associate and Software Engineer at the Regional Ocean Forecasting Systems Division (ROFS) of the Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC) Foundation in Lecce, Italy. He holds an M.Sc. in Computer Engineering from the University of Salento.

Since 2013, he has been working in the field of operational oceanography, focusing on the development of applications that support real-time marine forecasting and environmental decision-making. From 2013 to 2020, he was responsible for managing data production chains for several Decision Support Systems (DSSs) that leverage CMEMS data, including Sea-Conditions, VISIR, WITOIL, and OCEAN-SAR.

He also served as the system administrator for a small IBM cluster and a group of servers integrated via OpenNebula—a cloud computing platform for managing heterogeneous and distributed data center infrastructures.

From 2015 to 2022, he contributed to the Mediterranean Sea Monitoring and Forecasting System (Med-MFC) under the EU Copernicus Marine Service, acting as both Technical Expert and Technical Manager. Between 2022 and November 2024, he played a key role in developing the Black Sea Monitoring and Forecasting Centre (BLK-MFC), also within the Copernicus Marine Service. His roles included Production Unit Responsible and Technical Expert, focusing on environmental protection applications.

Since December 2024, he has been serving as both Product Manager and Technical Expert.

Additionally, from 2024 onward, he has been part of the ROFS Research-to-Operations (R2O) group, working to design, implement, document, integrate, and validate new frameworks that support the seamless transition of R&D into operational systems.
