ECO-DEKS – External knowledge sourcing strategies for environmental innovation in the industrial sector of Nigeria

Globally, the industrial sector substantially contributes to the high level of the world’s consumption of energy, natural resources and generation of waste. It is one of the most energy and resource intensive sectors in the world. Nigeria, one of the largest economies in Africa, does not have a clear cut policy on eco-innovation. More importantly, in light of the challenges such as resource scarcity, inadequate power supply, hazardous substances and waste generation, resource inefficiency and high intensity energy consumption facing the industrial sector, there is an urgent need to assess the policy measures that will guarantee transition to a sustainable manufacturing (UNEP 2011) which is fair and creates social and economic benefits in the country. However, before these can be achieved, it is crucial to understand how firms access, assimilate and develop the knowledge needed to reduce their environmental footprints. The overall objective of ECO-innovation and the Dynamics of External Knowledge Sourcing (ECO-DEKS) is to examine the dynamics of alliance portfolio for eco-innovation in the manufacturing and service sectors of Nigeria using both qualitative and quantitative data. ECO-DEKS focuses on the two sectors because of their significance to environmental sustainability. Together, these two sectors account for 70.84% of the GDP of the Nigerian economy in 2017. The sectors are similar in that they are characterized by considerable innovation potentials and by the highest potential environmental gains, but differ in terms of technology and the context within which the economic agents act. ECONADAPT – Economics of climate change adaptation in Europe

The aim of the project is to provide user orientated methodologies and evidence relating to economic appraisal criteria to inform the choice of adaptation actions using analysis that incorporates cross-scale governance under conditions of uncertainty.


EDITS – : Energy Demand changes Induced by Technological and Social innovations – Energy demand digital and social trends: understanding and modeling

The Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth (RITE) and Fondazione Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC) collaborate on the empirical and modeling analysis of new disruptive trends of technological and social innovation for reducing energy demand. RITE and CMCC will develop the Energy demand digital and social trends.


EDITS: Energy Demand changes Induced by Technological and Social innovations

The EDITS network brings together experts of various disciplines to regularly discuss about and engage in the multi-faceted energy demand research. The EDITS community works together based on common interest in interlinked topics, on transferring methodological knowledge, and on exploring modeling innovations across demand-side models.

The Research Institute of Innovative Technology for the Earth (RITE) and Fondazione Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC) collaborate on the empirical and modeling analysis of new disruptive trends of technological and social innovation for reducing energy demand. RITE and CMCC will develop the Low energy demand empirical and modeling work in a post pandemic world project


EDITS7: Energy Demand changes Induced by Technological and Social innovations

The EDITS (Energy Demand changes Induced by Technological and Social innovations) project is operated by RITE as a commissioned project of METI, with the aim of conducting a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of CO2 emission reductions and changes in energy demand brought about by technological innovation.


EESC – Study on The cost of climate change on households and families in the EU

CMCC has been awarded the service contract “Study on The cost of climate change on households and families in the EU”, funded by the European Commission. The aim of this study is to document the costs of climate changes (impacts, mitigation policies and adaptation measures) for the households in the European Union and their implications on income distribution and poverty indices.


EFFICIENT BUILDINGS

The EFFICIENT BUILDINGS project, as its predecessor MEDNICE, supports the Efficient Buildings Community established within the Interreg Mediterranean programme framework. The community brings together local and national public authorities, energy agencies, enterprises and research organizations to exchanges methodologies, experiences and tools on energy efficiency in the public buildings of the Mediterranean region.


ELEVATE – Enabling and Leveraging Climate Action Towards Netzero Emissions

ELEVATE is a project funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe programme and the consortium consists of 20 partners, and brings together leading research groups to support climate policymaking within and outside the EU. These research groups are involved in modelling international climate policy, national policies, social science, policy analysis, environmental assessment, and stakeholder engagement. World-leading institutions in global integrated assessment modelling are a central part of the ELEVATE consortium (IIASA, PBL, PIK, CMCC, E3M, NIES, KU, UFRJ/COPPETEC, and UMD). This means that the consortium involves all teams that have played a leading role in the coordination and development of the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways, which serve to integrate the assessment of mitigation, adaptation and impacts research across the climate change science community.


ENERGYA – ENERGY use for Adaptation

ENERGYA will improve our understanding of how energy and energy services can be used by households and industries to adapt to the risk posed by climate change.


ENGAGE – Exploring National and Global Actions to reduce Greenhouse gas Emissions

ENGAGE is a project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 programme and carried out by a consortium of 25 European and International organizations. As the world faces the risks of dangerous climate change, policy-makers, industry and civil society leaders are counting on Integrated Assessment Models (IAMs) to inform and guide strategies to deliver on the objectives of the Paris Agreement (PA). ENGAGE rises to this challenge by engaging these stakeholders in co-producing a new generation of global and national decarbonisation pathways. These new pathways will supplement natural science, engineering and economics, traditionally represented in IAMs, with cutting-edge insights from social science in order to reflect multidimensional feasibility of decarbonisation and identify opportunities to strengthen climate policies. The pathways will be designed to minimise overshoot of the temperature target and analyse the timing of net-zero emissions to meet the Paris temperature target and reduce the reliance on controversial negative emissions technologies. In addition, they will link national mitigation strategies of major emitters with the PA’s objectives, integrate potential game-changing innovations, and advance conceptually novel approaches to architectures of international climate agreements. ENGAGE will also quantify avoided impacts of climate change, co-benefits and trade-offs of climate policy, and identify the biggest sectoral opportunities for climate change mitigation. In ENGAGE, we will set new standards of transparency for global and national IAMs. The new pathways will be developed in an iterative global and national stakeholder process and a consortium of leading global and national IAMs and social scientists. ENTICE: ENhanced understanding of Trade Impacts on Climate, industries, and the Environment

Despite the wide recognition of the complex interactions between trade (policy) and climate (policy), the state-of-the-art capabilities in macroeconomic models face substantial limitations, such as lack of granular data, dependence on conventional trade theories, limited empirical evidence on trade-climate interactions, limited representation of the value and material chain in key (existing and emerging) sectors, heavy reliance on frameworks not accounting for endogenous technical change, limited understanding of the role of developing countries in trade, etc.


EPOC – Economic Policy in Complex Environments

The Innovative Training Network EPOC aims at advancing the state-of-the-art and the applicability of computationally intensive methods for decision and policy analysis and at using these methods in the domains of climate change and innovation.


ETC/CCA – European Topic Centre on Climate Change impacts, vulnerability and Adaptation

The ETC/CCA is a Consortium of European Organizations contracted by the European Environment Agency (EEA) to carry out specific tasks consistently with the EEA 2014-2018 five-year strategy and Multiannual Work Programme and the specific EEA Annual Work Programmes in the area of climate change impacts, vulnerability and adaptation (CCIVA) across Europe.


EU-MACS – European Market for Climate Services

EU-MACS project aims at identifying constraints and enablers in the market for climate services so as to clarify and illustrate how the supply of and demand for climate services can be optimally matched, while accounting for differentiation in climate service products and their production, as well in the user needs and capabilities regarding climate services.


EUCRA-2: European Climate Risk Assessment 2

This contract will aim at carrying out the European Climate Risk Assessment 2 (EUCRA-2). EUCRA-2 will ensure that Europe’s climate risk knowledge stays up-to-date and actionable throughout high-level risk assessments and recommendations tailored to EU policy contexts.
